Adrian Hernandez (Place 1)

Adrian Hernandez is a mission-driven nonprofit leader and public servant. He is passionate about driving impactful change through coalition building, policy advocacy, and operational excellence.

Adrian serves as Chief Executive Officer of Keep Pearland Beautiful where he oversees environmental education programs and the Stella Roberts Recycling Center, a recycling drop off facility which diverts over 1.4 million pounds of waste from landfills annually. Under his leadership, the organization achieved significant financial growth, expanded services, and gained statewide and national recognition for environmental excellence. He is also a member of the City of Pearland’s Stormwater Management Planning Committee and Uniform Development Code Committee.

Beyond Pearland, Adrian serves on the Keep Texas Beautiful board of directors and as the Chairman and Acting Director of the State of Texas Alliance for Recycling (STAR), the state’s designated SRO, or State Recycling Organization, where he has streamlined processes, reduced operating overhead, and increased memberships and revenues. In this role, he also leads the Texas Recycling Infrastructure Economic Development Initiative Team (T.R.I.E.D. I.T.), a coalition advancing recycling market development across the state which includes STAR, Keep Texas Beautiful, the Texas Economic Development Council, Texas Association of Regional Councils, the National Recycling Coalition, and the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality.

Adrian was elected to the position of Brazoria Drainage District #4, Place 1, in November 2024. He previously served as Mayor Pro-Tem for the City of Pearland and as President of the Brazoria County Cities Association. He is the former Chair of the National League of Cities First-Tier Suburbs Council and Vice-Chair of the Energy, Environment, & Natural Resources Federal Advocacy Committee. He is the former Chair of the Houston-Galveston Area Council Solid Waste Management Committee which oversees the allocation of $2+ million annually to local counties and cities across a 13-county region to expand material collection, diversion, and enforcement programs.

Adrian is the recipient of the Waste360 40-Under-40 Award, National Recycling Coalition Outstanding Elected Official Award, and the Keep Texas Beautiful Stan Weik Leadership Award for Lifetime Achievement in the field of Environmentalism. He holds advanced degrees in education and human behavior and certifications in nonprofit management and fundraising development. Through his extensive experience, Adrian continues to inspire and lead efforts toward sustainability and community empowerment here in Pearland and beyond.
